Our Story

Set in the heart of Shropshire overlooking Flounder's Folly and Church Stretton’s long Mynd our dedicated highly skilled team of stonemasons strive to create and restore the past and lay foundations for people in the future.

After not knowing what to do after I left school, I worked in a local warehouse which imported and sold carved Indian sandstone. There I met my future mentor who was already in the process of becoming a stonemason.

I soon did my research and got a place at Bath College. Already a Dad of one and expecting another it was a clear, things would be hard for a short time but as always, we made it work.

After a 3-year Banker Masonry course at Bath College with a distinction level pass, I was highly motivated to learn as much as I could over the coming years.

As dedicated, as I was, I started with a local firm as an apprentice and worked very hard to learn site skills & other traditional stonemasonry practices to produce highly crafted architectural components, restoration of listed buildings and the conservation of historic churches and cathedrals and working my way up to senior mason.

I worked on some fantastic projects over the last ten years including Gwern barn conservation, Shelton Hospital restoration, Castle lodge and many more private contracts.

It soon became clear I wanted to achieve more for not only myself, but also my family.

In 2020, with 10 years' experience in banker masonry, I founded Staves's Stonemasonry, a family run stonemasonry business with the aim to produce highly crafted stonemasonry and restore historic buildings for generations to come...

Using all my skills I've learnt in traditional craftsmanship we produce quality architectural components for historic buildings, private and commercial contracts we aim for success at the highest standard for all our clients.
